Cruising Industry on course to boom in 2011

17/05/2011

With cruise passenger numbers set to reach  1.75 million in 2011 and 2 million by 2014, the marine voltage division expertise at Southern Contracts is in great demand.

Southern Contracts has set high standards for dealing with the supply of electrical cleaning equipment, laundry machines and galley equipment to the Cruising Industry.
Since the increased growth of the cruising market in 2010, Hugh Elphinstone was promoted to oversee Southern Contracts’ largest cruising market customer.  Hugh, has plenty of experience in specifying for a ship fit-out after managing the Royal Navy Account for six years, and the prestigious fitting out of the new cruise ships Azura and Queen Elizabeth.

Many months of planning go into these enormous projects. Most cruise ships generate an electrical supply that differs from that used in the U.K. so no equipment is available “off the shelve”.  Manufacturers have to schedule special production runs and Southern Contracts Technicians convert equipment to operate on these special voltages.

Cruise Ships have to be self supporting when it comes to running repairs and breakdowns.   Again, Southern Contracts expertise is there offering full support.  Technical drawings, parts catalogues and list upon list of spare parts are generated.   On board spare part packs are produced, this draws on Southern Contracts having over 45 years experience supplying the Marine and Off Shore Industry.  In the event of an emergency, equipment and spare parts can be shipped worldwide.

This month is all about ‘global’, as “Hugh and his Crew” are quoted as saying, “We are supplying British made equipment, to an Italian Shipyard, for an American Customer”. There are some exciting changes going on in the Cruise Industry, with more young people seeing the appeal of a cruise, niche travel and cruise opportunities and new shipboard experiences being offered, which all backs up the consumer perception that a cruise offers good value for money.

Southern Contracts would welcome you contacting us regarding your upcoming ship fit-out and recommend the ideal equipment for your requirements.
